Dr. Young, You certainly are one of the most memorable teachers I’ve ever had. The way you integrated your faith, science, and teaching is something I will never forget. Your devotion to teaching your students is unparalleled and is an inspiration. I know you will disagree with this statement, yet another testimony to your character and dedication, but you set the bar far higher than us mere mortals could ever reach. I really hope you enjoy your retirement. I know teaching is ingrained into who you are, but do try to take it easy every now and then. Enjoy not having to make lesson plans, grading tests or homework. Benjamin J. Daniel, Ph.D.

Thank you!

I just had to say "thank you" to you as well as so many others have done. It was a priviledge to have you as a professor, "boss", and friend while I attended BNC. You kept me on my toes & made me think when I really didn't want to! Thank you for your example as a Godly woman.

Dr Young, I want to thank you for your gift of teaching that you have demonstrated these many years. The countless hours I spent in the Science Building back in the early 70s(clearly another lifetime ago) counting fruit flies, stuffing birds (using my mad taxidermy skills), mounting my bugs (Phylum, Class, Order, Family, Genus, Species), and counting gametes. Wow does that bring back memories! Thank you for all that gerat stuff. In addition to your gift teachings, I want to thank you for your gift of listening. You, along with Drs Judd and Leo Finkenbinder left an indelible memory in my mind. I attended 2 other unversities after BNC, none of those have been as memorable as my four years at BNC. May God richly bless this new phase of your life. Thank you for your dedication to SNU. Ralph Eguren

You Gave Us Great Memories!

I would like to wish you an extremely happy and well deserved retirement to a Godly, wise woman of God. I remember your warm gentle smiles, when we would do crazy things in your labs. I remember counting the wild and dumpy flies, smelling the ether, leaning about genetics, but more importantly learning about life. You were a quiet, but real role model, and for this I thank you. You have touched many lives and have made a very large difference to all of them. Luis A Eguren

A True Role Model!
May 4, 2008
Dr. Young (Sharon): The true mark of a person is their influence on others. You are certainly the best example I know of an individual who has had a positive influence on all of those you have met in your distinguished career as a science educator. The world is a better place because we have learned from you that all of God's creatures (yes, even Thysanopterins) have a role to play in this intricate ecosystem. May God continue to bless you and your family. Michael Slimak, Ph.D.

Thank you for the encouragement, dedication, and faithfulness that you have shown us over so many years of educating those of us in healthcare and the sciences. I always found a true mentor and friend in our advisement sessions as I tried to figure out how quickly I could go on to graduate school! Even though I didn't go to medical school (like you gently suggested several times), my career as a physical therapist has been so very rewarding as I use the tools that began in your classes. Most important being the compassion for God's human creation and the understanding of His master plan for all of us. I know God will bless you in this time of transition in your life! Congratulations on your lifetime of investment in others! Maybe now you can rest!

Dr. Young, Heather and I met during your 7:30 Zoology class, and we'll have been married for 10 years this June. We met and bonded through all of the wonderful experiences from this and other classes we took while under your wing. Thank you for showing, through your life, that one can be a scientist as well as an incredible Christian, and there is no conflict between the two. I want to say thank you for sharing your knowledge, caring about creation, loving mankind, and being such a greatly positive role model for each and every student who went through those biology doors. SNU will be losing a GREAT professor...Thank you for everything you gave to your students
Congratulations on a well deserved retirement!
