The last conversation I had with Joe was on this date at a surprise birthday party for his dad. By the time we made it around the room to each other, he had definitely had a few Cosmos. He was soooo funny that night. And I am happy that my last conversation with him was in such a great environment. I have tons of memories from over the many years. We are cousins and I have so enjoyed reading all the tributes to him across the 'net. I tried to download a pic from this event but for some reason am unable to do so. THanks to all for sharing your wonderful memories of Joe.

Chicago Memorial?

I was a friend of Joe's in San Francisco. We worked together at Foreign Cinema and he always had a great attitude about life, ready with his big smile, that infectious laugh and his warm big bear hugs. I will miss him greatly.

I now live in Chicago and have not heard if there is (or was) a service for him here. Please let me know if anyone has any information regarding a memorial for Joe in Chicago. I can be reached at mfzartman@gmail.com.

Apples and Yogurt

Thanksgiving 2007

I have known Joe Killilea since the early nineties when he danced in that small company in Evanston, Il where I was on scholarship. Over the years I have seen him in NYC, in Vegas where I lived for twelve years, in Chicago and most recently in San Francisco where we spent Thanksgiving 2007 together with Orlando and Roger, friends from Chicago that also lived in San Francisco at the time.

I stayed with Joe for a couple of nights on the futon in the front room tucked in between the pilates equipment, the Pottery Barn quilt and Muriel keeping me warm throughout the night. In the mornings we had bowls of apples and yogurt, Joe's bowl was larger than mine (I think it was a mixing bowl...) and since then it has become a regular part of my diet, though I eat it in the evening after dinner. And now when my boyfriend's nine year old daughter Sammy comes to visit, she always asks if we can have apples and yogurt.
