Brown vs. Board of Education
1954
Brown vs. Board of Education eliminated segregation in schools.
Bilingual Education Act
1968
Signed into law by president Lyndon B. Johnson as part of the Title VII of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act of 1965. The goal was to provide funds for different types of programs for ELLs throughout the United States.
The Education For All Handicapped Children Act
1975
This act was one of the most significant movements for the rights of students with disabilities in education. This act required that students with disabilities be educated in the least restrictive environment. Through this act came the term mainstreaming in education.
No Child Left Behind
2001
No Child Left Behind holds schools accountable for all students success. The main goal was for students to perform at a proficient level or higher in reading and math by 2014.
Our 44th President
2008
The election of Barrack Obama as the 44th president of the United States in 2008 is a significant marker of important demographic changes in the United States. Many people from many different cultural backgrounds supported Obama during his election. Obama becoming the first African-American president has set the stage for multicultural change.
