The Higher Education Opportunity Act
08-14-2008
Reauthorizes the Higher Education Act of 1965, to make college and higher education opportunities more accessible and affordable to students in low and middle classes.
Bilingual Education Act passed
1968
This act provides federal funding to school districts to make available educational programs for students with limited English speaking capabilities.
Little Rock 9
09-25-1957
After the Supreme Court ruling of Brown vs. Board of Education in 1954, all schools in the United States were called to be unsegregated. Nine students in Little Rock, Arkansas were escorted by Federal Troops as they enrolled at the previously all-white Little Rock Central High School.
Plessy vs. Ferguson
5-18-1896
As a result of this case, the Federal Government decided that segregation was legal as long as it was equal. This resulted in southern states passing laws to require racial segregation in public schools. Follow the link to learn more:
